GAME ART

Plan your first game environment

Turn a big world-building idea into a manageable scene.

Write a one-sentence brief

Describe the place, mood and purpose of your environment. A small abandoned workshop is easier to plan than an entire city. Gather references for materials, lighting and architecture, and note what each reference helps you understand.

Block out before adding detail

Use simple shapes to establish scale, routes and the main camera view. Check whether the space is readable before committing to detailed assets. Adjust proportions while the scene is still easy to change.

Build an asset list

Separate essential props from optional decoration. Identify shapes that can be reused as modular pieces. Keep naming and folders consistent so assets remain easy to find as the scene grows.

Finish with a clear presentation

Review materials and lighting together, inspect your intended views and record a short walkthrough. Present the final scene with a few process images so viewers can understand your planning and decisions.
